Giza Pyramids Tour

Writer: AylaAyla

Located just outside the outskirts of Cairo, the Great Pyramids of Giza are the must-see ancient Egyptian landmark. It’s a truly overwhelming sight gazing at one of the seven wonders of the world standing to this day!

You can’t help but feel dwarfed when you are standing in front of these colossal structures.

The greatest pyramid of this complex is Khufu’s pyramid, and the other two smaller -but still huge- are those of Khafre and Menkaure.

There’s so much fascinating history to explore here. For example:

Egypt’s pharaohs expected to become gods in the afterlife, so to prepare for that they erected temples and and massive pyramid tombs filled with all the things a ruler would need in the next world.

Entering the pyramid was a great experience. It gets very narrow and dark as you move upwards, and there’s a point where you end up crawling on your hands and knees (so avoid if you’re claustrophobic!). It was also very hot as we were visiting during the summer, but I’m glad we did venture inside as it was truly unforgettable and we just loved it 😊!

To the East on the Giza plateau there’s piles of rubble representing the queens’ pyramids, the tombs of Khufu’s wives and sisters, and also there you’ll find the magnificent Great Sphinx where all the tourists are busy snapping photos 😅📸.

It was a shame we couldn’t stay until nighttime to watch the Pyramid Sound & Light Show but I’m hoping we’ll get a chance to visit the complex again to witness it. We didn’t go on a camel ride but you can definitely go for that if you visit 🐪🐪.

We also visited the capital of ancient Egypt Memphis and it’s nearby necropolis Saqqara. It’s really worth visiting these places too. You’ll find the very first pyramid ever built, numerous ancient ruins, statues and majestic temples, but most notably you can’t miss the colossus of the famous pharaoh Ramses the Great and the immense alabaster sphinx monolith.

Absolutely astounding tour all in all, I highly recommend you to go on a day trip if you find yourself in Cairo 😃🇪🇬🐪✅.

Tip: Book a guided English-language tour that includes transfers from your hotel and your experience will be much smoother and easier.
