HATTA sits on the border with Oman, and is a mere 1.5 hour drive, but worlds apart from the bustling Dubai. It has beautiful mountain scenery, cool cultural destinations and totally Insta worthy shots at places like Hatta Dam.

The scenic drive through the Hajar mountains alone got us really excited when we went to visit, and we sure were not disappointed.

There’s honestly so many awesome things to see and do here! The challenge is how to fit them all in: Hike, bike, camp, zorb, kayak to name a few…

The first place we visited was Hatta Dam and it was breathtakingly beautiful especially during sunset. We headed down to the water @hattakayak where you can rent kayaks, canoes, paddle-boating and more. We had such fun as it was the kids’ first time kayaking, and it was also a good workout for our arms.💪

We really wanted to camp, or more like glamp, at one of the Hatta Damani Lodges or Hatta Sedr Trailers @meeras but unfortunately they all were sold out well in advance. I recommend you book as early as you can because they get snapped up pretty quickly, I know I will!

However there is in fact a dedicated camping site next to Hatta Caravan Park but you will have to bring your own camping gear. It’s still a good option because you have access to the basic facilities available @HattaWadiHub.

Instead we headed to the @JA Hatta Fort Hotel in the heart of Hatta. This hotel had such magnificent views of the 16th century Hatta Fort and the mountains that we quickly got over our disappointment of not camping!

The next morning we headed to @hattawadihub for an action-packed day.
First up was zorbing; that’s rolling downhill inside a giant transparent ball, hilarious and heaps of fun. 😂 Then we rented bikes and spent the rest of the afternoon fully immersed in exploring all the mountain trails (which are helpfully color-coded according to difficulty).

But there was also other cool activities like archery and axe-throwing. There's even a huge 12m high water slide where you can splash down and practise your flips!

It was a real shame we ran out of time to visit the Hatta Heritage Village. This restored folklore museum apparently gives visitors a true glimpse of Emirati life in historic times, a chance to see what life was like in the Hajar Mountains before the economical oil boom of the 1960s. But it’s definitely top of our list on our next visit.

Postcard perfect and just the spot for a quick staycation getaway, we’ll most definitely be back to the wonderful wilderness and gorgeous scenery of Hatta 🚴 🏔 🏊♀️ 🏃♂️ 🛶 🏕
