Snapshot of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Writer: AylaAyla

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Grand really is an understatement. Awe-inspiring and unforgettable are words that popped to mind when I visited this mesmerizing place.

Built by the late HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, it is one of the world’s largest mosques featuring 82 domes, over 1000 columns, marble pillars, and 24-carat-gold glided chandeliers.

The main prayer hall hosts one of the world’s largest chandeliers, and the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet! 🤯

It took just over a decade to complete, and the Grand Mosque stands today to convey Sheikh Zayed’s message of Islam’s genuine and everlasting values of peace, tolerance and diversity.

This mosque has been skillfully designed to fuse diverse Islamic architectural schools of past and present. You see that clearly in the Mosque’s minarets which combine Moroccan, Andalusian and Mameluke styles. The end result is a breathtaking, gleaming architectural marvel.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque has a welcoming open-door policy. Nowadays you need to book your tickets online, but you can ask the reception for a guided tour when you arrive.

Be well prepared for the dress code and make sure you cover all your arms and legs with non-transparent clothes. Women have to cover their head as well but are supplied with an Abaya if required.

Such a sublime experience that speaks to your soul. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is definitely one of those places I would love to visit again one day. ☪️🕌😍
